Apricot Maltipoo puppies bear a stunning color that many pet owners are looking for. They are unique and their small size makes them even cuter. There are many Maltipoo colors which can either be solid or a mix of two different shades.
When it comes to Maltipoo puppies, their faded red color gives a calmer and silky look. Unlike the usual brown or cream color, Apricot Maltipoos have a distinct look that stands out among the rest.
The color of Maltipoos gets diluted as they are passed on to different generations. To produce Apricot Maltipoos, breeders will typically pair a red toy Poodle and a pure, silky white Maltese. Although the litter will have solid apricot pups, there will be point colors on some of the body parts like the paw, tail, brow, or chest.
Still, don’t be fooled by the terms that breeders use to market cream and beige pups as Apricots. Some of them use the terms ‘Orange Peel’ or ‘Strawberry Apricot’ even if the pup doesn’t have such a color.
What makes Apricot Maltipoo Puppies different?
Apricot Maltipoos are one-of-a-kind due to their unique color. For newborn pups, there’s a possibility of graying on the second or third month. Still, this will go away as the dog reaches its steady color by the time it turns one or two years old.
Here are some of the unique traits of Apricot Maltipoos that make them distinctive with other pups:
1. Fading color
Take note that some Apricot Maltipoos tend to fade into cream as they get older. This can happen to some but not to all.
Maltipoos that fade as they age will be born with a solid color. It can be a matter of genetics or bloodline that the dog will soon lose its Apricot luster.
As the possibility of graying, fading will take place as the pup turns one year old. Some breeders can identify this so you can get a pup that will retain its color even as it becomes an adult dog.
Some Apricot Maltipoos, though, will fade into cream while retaining the faded red on some parts of their bodies like their ears, tails, and paws.
2. Breeding
Producing Apricot puppies is way easier than breeding rarer colors like red, blue, and black. By cross-breeding a red toy Poodle and a Maltese, the Apricot Maltipoo will be born.
Still, there can be the possibility of what’s called as ‘throwback’. This is when a trait from 10 to 20 generations back still finds its way on the latest litter. With this, Apricot Maltipoos may either have a solid Apricot or a secondary Apricot hue.
So even with controlled breeding, some breeders may still be surprised with the result. Still, selective breeding may limit the possibility of this unexpected outcome.
Take note that due to the unexpected outcomes, Apricot Maltipoo puppies could be more expensive than the usual white and cream versions.
3. Genes
Genetics is the main reason why Maltipoos can vary in color. But even though their outside look is different than most of other Maltipoos, their temperament and behavior will still be the same. It will be predicted by the personality of the dam and sire as well as the manner of raising the puppy.
Take note that a Maltipoo’s behavior and temperament can be influenced by up to five generations back. If you want one with an amiable disposition, it’s always best to deal with legitimate breeders.
Also, their genes will pretty much dictate the intensity of their colors. Breeders would have to take the chance that within the litter, there’s a real Apricot Maltipoo that will rise.
4. Color variations
Maltipoo comes in different colors. It can be black, white, cream, apricot, brown, and even red. Of all these colors, the most sought-after are Apricot Maltipoos. No doubt, this color gives the dog a relaxed and elegant look. Although red and black are much rare, it doesn’t appeal as much as Apricot does.
Cream Maltipoos are the closest that comes to Apricot-colored pups. There’s also a time when Apricot Maltipoos will become cream-colored adult dogs.
These color variations vary widely, but it’s much difficult to find a breeder that can produce authentic Apricot pups.
5. Appearance
Who wouldn’t like a pup that looks silky, elegant, and regal? The Apricot color is a game-changer when it comes to choosing your Maltipoo pup.
Most dog owners are charmed by this color because unlike cream, the Apricot hue gives more shine to the dog’s overall appearance.
